"As an animal lover, owner and a veterinary naturopath, I have always looked to Nature to learn how to feed and care for my pets. What we put into the bodies of our animal companions, directly affects their health. Without proper nutrition, even the most genetically sound animals will not reach their full potential and could also have health problems as a result. What we choose to feed our birds (or dog or cat ) is probably one of THE most important decision you'll make for your pet.

Parrots are still considered WILD birds, even though captive bred and raised, they are only at best one or two generations removed from the wild. What did our captive bred parrot's parents eat before they were caught and "domesticated' what are wild parrots still eating today? Think about this for a minute. While parrots live all over the world and their natural habitat may differ in some respects; however, we do know that wild parrots spend most of their lives in trees, the trees supply them with sprouts, leaves, blossoms, soft twigs, sometimes nuts, fruits and green seeds to thrive on. The trees may also be inhabited by insects but it is believed that most of the protein in a wild parrots diet comes mostly from vegetation and fruits. In addition to eating vegetation in the trees, some parrots have been observed eating on the ground, foraging at a marsh clearings roots, plants and soil and clay.

I was thrilled to find BirD-Elicious a couple of years ago and see the natural, organic, species specific ingredients they use. My Congo African Grey Parrot has a blast foraging through his bowl and eventually eating everything! I was even more excited to see that they make their foods fresh and slowly air dry them to preserve all the nutrients so there is no need to use synthetic vitamins that are difficult to assimilate. BirD-elicious is the closest thing I have found to a species-specific bird food on the commercial market. Aside from making up your own fresh raw diet for your birds (They have wonderful organic sprout mixes as well) BirD-Elicious is just about the most pure bird food you will find! *The Willo's Baby Beaks is for birds who are not fully weaned yet. It is our powdered baby hand-feeding formula. This does not look like any other baby food you may be accustomed too! We do not use corn, wheat or soy. Our baby formula is green because of all of the high quality nutrition and no filler ingredients!

*The Teenager Transitionals ("TT"), is for birds almost weaned to about 1 to 2 years of age depending on the species. The "TT" is higher in protein and calcium, and in some cases contains a bit more of the omega oils.

*Tiny birds (Budgies, Finches, for example), should receive the Baby Beaks Basic up to about 9 months of age, along with the SeeD-elicious! Tiny Beaks.

*Smallest birds (Lovebirds, Parakeets, Parrotlets, for example) should receive the "TT" variety up to about 1 year old.

*Small birds (Conure, Pionus, for example) should receive the "TT" up to about 1 to 1.5 years old.

*Average size birds (AG, Sm Toos, for example) should recieve "TT" up to about 1.5 to 2 years old.

*Large birds (Lrg Toos, Macaws, for example) should receive "TT" until about 2 years of age.

***After the "TT", all birds should be placed on the adult version of their species-specific formula for the remainder of their life unless they develop a specific health problem that requires one of our other specialty formulas.
